IG TO PAY #10m DAMAGE TO 14-YEAR OLD FOR ILLEGAL DETENTION

The federal high court holden at Asaba, has ordered the Inspector General of police to pay the sum of 10m as exemplary damage following the brutalization and illegal detention of a 14-year old secondary school girl sometime in 2011. The student, Amand Atigbi of Saint Paul's Grammar School, Ebu in Delta state. According to the facts of the case, was handcuffed, tortured and kept in solitary police cell while in detention and denied access to her parents or a lawyer.
