SURGEONS REMOVE HALF OF A BOY'S BRAIN

Tom Parrent was home alone with his 3-year-old son Sam-- better known as "spike" when after lunch he told his father he was "really, really tired" and need to take a nap. The boy couldn't even make it upstairs to bed, so he collapsed on the couch and drifted off to sleep. A few minutes later his father heard this animal scream and spike was in a grand mal seizure, up to this point he had been a perfectly healthy boy, his father said it was terrifying. The event lasted five minutes, but in the grueling year ahead, Spik's seizures escalated to between 70 and 100 a day. Doctors were ready to put him in coma, and his parents feared he would die. Spike was later referred to the Cleveland Clinic, where surgeons removed half of the frontal lobe of his brain, a radical step, but one that saved his life. Today the boy is in kindergarten and not only seizure free, but is as healthy as any boy his age.- ABC NEWS
