Lawyer slumps... Dies in court

The premises of the Magistrate Court, Owo,
Ondo State, was in pensive mood on Thursday
following the death of a prominent legal
practitioner in the ancient town, Mr. Olufemi
Adeyeri. He was 65 years. He reportedly slumped and died inside the
Magistrate Court two. Adeyeri, a member of All Progressives
Congress was said to have finished with the
case he was handling when he suddenly
collapsed. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre
(FMC) by sympathizers and some of his legal
colleagues including the immediate past
Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, Owo
branch, Mr. Kola Olawoye. He was confirmed dead on arrival at the
hospital. Late Adeyeri, a former House of Assembly
candidate for Owo constituency I under the
platform of the defunct Alliance for Democracy
(AD) in 2003, was said to be hale and healthy
before the incident. This week alone, the state had lost two of its
prominent sons, including the immediate past
Commissioner for Information, Ranti Akerele
and the former Commissioner for Agriculture
and Natural Resources during the late Adebayo
Adefarati’s regime, Dr. Akerele Adu. The lawyer‘s death has been described as a
rude shock by residents of Owo, particularly his
neighbour at his Ego Street residence. Olawoye described the deceased as a
seasoned legal luminary, committed Awoist and
unrepentant APC supporter.
