6-year-old boy and his accused found dead
JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KTVI)– The search for a six-year-old boy ended tragically on Christmas Eve. Police say they found Markell Beasley dead, along with his father figure. Investigators had solid leads, but the leads took them to three parts of Missouri and all of them more than 100 miles apart.
The frantic search for Markell Beasley began December 22nd, when relatives of Demetrius Beasley picked him up from Jefferson City to go to St. Louis for a holiday party. Court records indicate Beasley lived at a Vinita Park home, which is dressed for the season with an inflated snowman and Christmas Homer Simpson. But the boy`s mom reported she learned there was no holiday party and that Beasley was not going to return little Markell.
Vinita Park neighbor Christopher Townes remembers someone warning him about the amber alert. Townes said, “He was like did you see that? That was his family member.”
According to online court records, prosecutors filed child molestation charges against Demetrius Beasley at the Vinita Park address, back in April. Then in June, according to court records, a Judge ordered Beasley have no contact with the victim or with any children not related to him.
On Christmas Eve, police got a tip Demetrius and Markell were about two hours south of St. Louis, in Cape Girardeau. Police responded to gunshots at a home, where they report they found 6-year-old Markell and 40-year-old Demetrius, dead.
Townes said, “I`m down after hearing something like that happen, you know, little boy gets killed and then the father shoots himself or something like that.”
Townes said other people in the home rushed out when they heard the news. No one answered the door. You can still see signs of a playful child, like toy trucks, surrounding the home of the father believed to have ended it all.
Court records also show Demetrius Beasley had a court date in February on the molestation charge against him. Beasley faced a new charge after taking off Markell – kidnapping, a charge filed just hours before police found him and the boy dead.
