King beaten, stripped naked, palace burnt
The paramount king of the ancient town of Ado-odo in Ogun State, Oba Lateef Adeniran Akanni, the Olofin Adimula of Ado-odo, in Ado-odo-Ota Local Government in Ogun state was mercilessly beaten, stripped naked and his palace razed by some angry members of his community.
According to an eye-witness who pleaded anonymity the Oba allegedly slapped a member of the community during a heated argument, of which the action of the Oba sparked up an anger by some youths withing the community. The angered youth pounced on the king, beat him mercilessly, wounded and stripped him naked before thousands of passersby. The palace was also reportedly burnt.
Oba Lateef Adeniran Akanni, the Olofin Adimula of Ado-odo was enthroned as the paramount king of Ado-odo kingdom in a couple of years ago. We gathered that the Oba has been unpopular among his people since his enthronement. Investigation revealed that the king was enthroned as a result of supreme court ruling on his favour as the Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo during the rein of Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the Governor of Ogun State after 26years of legal battle. It was further gathered that the oba was not the popular candidate the community of Ado-odo had wanted as their king. But since the ruling of the highest court of the land, the supreme could not be reversed, they had no choice. Since then, there have been lots of fracas within the community which had left many houses burnt, several people dead and so many other flee the ancient town of Ado-odo in safety of their lives.
