CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. —
A 21-year-old Long Island woman accused of faking cancer and seeking donations to support a drug habit has pleaded not guilty to charges including grand larceny.
Brittany Ozarowski, formerly of Selden, was in court in Central Islip on Thursday. Her bail was set at $75,000 cash, or $150,000 bond. Prosecutors had wanted bail to be set higher.
Authorities say Ozarowski left donor jars at Nassau and Suffolk county businesses and hit up supermarket shoppers for money that she used for drugs. The indictment against her was unsealed Wednesday.
Suffolk county prosecutor Michelle Pitman said there are four other cases pending against Ozarowski
Her attorney George Duncan objected to the bail amount asked for by prosecutors, saying she was accused of non-violent crimes and didn't deserve a higher bail amount.
