Man arrested for plans to kidnap, rape and eat children
In a recommendation to the courts, federal prosecutors wrote:
Portway has pled guilty to some of the most vile and heinous crimes known to our society.
During online chats as “Fat Longpig,” Portway discussed and shared child pornography fetishes through tens of thousands of images and videos. Over 4,500 shared images were found on Portway’s computer, sent between Portway and people he chatted with online. Images showed children who were being cooked andprepped to be eaten.
The chat sessions Portway participated in described his basement as a “dungeon” where he planned on keeping kidnapped children while they were abused sexually. This was the place he planned on murdering and eating the children, according to his chat descriptions.
One online chat partner plotted with Portway on ways to kidnap children who attended a church in Florida. The chat “partner” knew of the children through his work at the church.
Prosecutors added:
Portway’s collection is truly chilling and demonstrates a real risk based upon which the Court should sentence Portway to a substantial term of years in order to protect the public.
Is 27 years really enough to protect people from someone with this mindset? When Portway is released from prison, how safe will children be in his neighborhood?
This is a man who would have to undergo many years of treatment in a mental institution before he is released into the public again, assuming there is a cure for this type of mental instability.
Portway’s online activity was a red flag for police, which is what started the investigation. There were others involved in the online chat, who are hopefully contacted as well since they obviously hold the same mentality as Portway. Whether or not those who were involved in the chat were contacted yet has not been revealed.
Our court system has to be diligent on these types of cases, especially when found before anything actually occurs. The term Portway may receive does not seem conducive to the crime committed. Although Portway had not committed the horrific crimes that were planned, the thought was there.
Should he receive more prison time? Do you think he would have committed these crimes
