Alan Evans murder trial: Husband 'shoved wife down stairs then made it look like accident' 08 October 2013 12:00 AM By Martin Fricker She'd found out he was having a fling with a teaching assistant at their children's school, a court heard Accused; Alan Evans is on trial for the murder of his wife Louise A cheating husband threw his wife to her death down the stairs then left a skipping rope by her body to make it look accidental, a court heard. Alan Evans, 35, killed 32-year-old Louise after she found out he was having a fling with teaching assistant Amanda Chadwick, who worked at the school where their three children attended, jurors were told. An uncoiled hoover was also allegedly found at the top of the stairs after her death. On the night she died in July last year neighbours heard a scream followed by an “almighty bang”, the court heard. Evans told police he was asleep and heard nothing. He made a “hysterical” sham 999 call pleading for help when he found her body, it is claimed. Prosecutor Jonas Hankin QC told jurors Evans exchanged “thousands” of texts with Amanda, including some detailing sex. When Louise suspected an affair he sent fake messages pretending the relationship was over, it is alleged. Speaking of her death, Mr Hankin said: “He pushed or threw her down the stairs and if she did not die shortly after, then he smothered her. "A skipping rope was positioned close to her body to make it seem like she became entangled in it. “The defendant says he was asleep when she must have fallen by accident. “If she was conscious she must have screamed as she fell, and if she wasn’t there would have been an almighty crash. “How can he not have heard his wife, who weighed over 12 stone, crash down the stairs?" Mr Hankin told jurors Louise, who was married to Evans for 12 years, suffered injuries not consistent with a fall. He said: “She had a broken eye socket. This type of break is most commonly found from an assault… a kick or a punch.” The cause of her death is still unknown but a pathologist said it was most likely she was smothered. Evans, of Kidderminster, Worcs, denies murder. The trial at Worcester crown court continues.
