If you assumed they were just being polite, think again. It could be their way of secretly chatting you up.
Shy, unattached Britons revealed to researchers that they fish for clues every day to discover if the person they have taken a shine to is single.
Two-thirds of the workforce admit to doing this, while only a third are bold enough to come straight out and ask someone if they’re available.

Customer service manager Shane Wilson, 29, from Portsmouth said: “It’s not easy to ask someone if they’re in a relationship – they might be scared off by how blunt you are. I usually try to get clues and then we can see where the conversation takes us.”
Kate Taylor of dating website Match.com which ran the survey said: “Some singles are way too shy to use obvious approaches on people they find attractive. You could be being chatted up daily and just not notice.
