Very unfortunate

Husband and wife
collide in deadly
head-on crash
Two young newlyweds driving separate
cars were killed in a freak accident Friday
morning when they collided head-on near
an egg farm where they worked.
Nicolas Cruz, 31, and Kristina Muñoz, 26,
usually took two cars to Marhard Pullet
Farm outside Odell, Texas, where they had
different shifts, the Times Record News of
Wichita Falls reported .
The couple, who got married in April 2013
and had three young kids, were driving
separately on a narrow road between two
buildings when they collided at about 10
a.m., the newspaper says.
State police said it appeared Muñoz was
traveling north in her 1999 Saturn when
she crossed into the center of an
unmarked road and hit Cruz, who had
just gone around a curve in his 1990
Mazda.
Muñoz was driving to an extension
building in the farm’s main complex,
while Cruz was going from the complex to
the extension, officials told the paper.
“This is a very narrow, blacktop county
road, and there are no markings,” state
Trooper Tony Fulton said. “There are no
shoulder markings, and there are no
center stripe markings.”
Both the husband and wife were alone in
their cars, and police said it didn’t appear
either had been wearing a seat belt.
Troopers are looking at whether speed
was a factor and said there were no skid
marks to indicate either had slammed on
the brakes.
Investigators are interviewing people who
last saw the couple to find any other
possible causes.
Emergency crews had to use special
equipment to pull the couple’s bodies
from the wreckage.
The Wilbarger County justice of the peace
pronounced the couple dead at the scene.
Officials said that many couples work at
the farm together and that many take two
cars to their jobs.
Facebook photos showed the parents with
their children — two boys and a girl.
Cruz and Muñoz were originally from
Mexico. They were raising their family in
the small Texas town of Chillicothe.
“You will always be with us in our
hearts,” relatives and friends posted in
Spanish on Muñoz’s Facebook page.
Cruz’s page shows he enjoyed soccer and
was from Querétaro, a state in central
Mexico.
Muñoz was originally from Tamaulipas in
eastern Mexico.
State troopers say they hope to have a full
report on the crash by next week.
