Radio station says sorry for encouraging trolls to bully an actress

Helen Flanagan: Radio station says sorry after 'encouraging listeners to bully and troll actress'

A radio station has been forced to apologise after being accused of encouraging listeners to bully and troll actress Helen Flanagan.
Manchester's Key 103 ran a Facebook poll on it's website asking if people 'loved or loathed' the ex-Coronation Street star.
And similar comments were made during the station's breakfast show.
Listeners hit back and accused the station of promoting bullying and trolling Flanagan.
The Facebook post was removed shortly afterwards with the station admitting it was "inappropriate".
A Key 103 spokesman said: “Yesterday some comments were made on air and on Facebook about Helen Flanagan and for that we sincerely apologise. We are sorry for any offence this caused.”
A spokesman for the station told the Manchester Evening News: “The wording of the posting was inappropriate and as soon as it was seen by our senior team at the station it was taken down. We are now in discussions with the staff member responsible for the posting.”
The Facebook post and on-air comments, made during the breakfast show with Adam Catterall and Chelsea Spokes, featured a photo of Helen, 23, and said: “A&C: Hmmmmmmm this is HELEN FLANAGAN in Manchesteryesterday... Hmmmmm LOVE OR LOATHE??”
One commenter, called Nicky Phillips, replied: “Have you nasty lot ever heard the saying ‘if you can’t say anything nice then don’t saying anything at all’. You should take this post down as it’s really quite unnecessary and just encourages people to bully.”
Another, called Marc Allan, added: “Promoting bullying and trolling! You should be supporting a fellow Mancunian.”
