Hacker posts on Zuckerberg s Facebook page
The West Australian Mark Zuckerberg
A man has reportedly hacked into Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook page to expose the site's vulnerability.
Palestinian computer expert Khalil Shreateh discovered a glitch that allowed anyone to post to a stranger's Facebook wall, reports the Daily Mail.
However, when the company ignored his warnings, Mr Shreateh posted about the issue on the Facebook founder's wall.
Rather than thank Mr Shreateh for highlighting the problem, Facebook said it was not a bug and denied him the reward usually given to programmers who report security holes.
"My name is Khalil Shreateh. I finished school with B.A degree in Information Systems . I would like to report a bug in your main site which i discovered it...The bug allow Facebook users to share links to other facebook users , I tested it on Sarah.Goodin wall and I got success post,' he posted.
Mr Shreateh, whose first language is Arabic, lives in Palestine and has no connection with Mr Zuckerberg or his Facebook friends.
'Sorry for breaking your privacy, I had no other choice…after all the reports I sent to Facebook team,' he wrote on Mr Zuckerbeg's page.
Minutes later, Facebook contacted him demanding to know how he'd hacked the boss's personal page.
"We have fixed this bug," a spokesman said.
Facebook has a bounty program designed to bribe hackers into reporting glitches they find rather than exploiting them. Such validated reports are worth $500.
But by posting to Mr Zuckerberg's account, Mr Shreateh "violated the terms of service and will not be rewarded for his find".
