Five killed in Rivers road accident
AT least, five persons lost their lives in a road accident along Tai-Bori Road in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The road crash occurred at about 7.30pm on Saturday when a Siena space bus, conveying the occupants, lost control and hit a culvert while trying to negotiate a bend at Nonwa area of Tai.
It was gathered that the vehicle was on top speed when the incident happened, living the occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, with no hope of surviving.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Bright, told our correspondent that efforts made by sympathisers to save the lives of the occupants failed as the victims had died before they could be rescued.
Bright explained that the Siena car was a commercial vehicle moving from Bori to Port Harcourt before it crashed into a culvert.
"The car was on a high speed and lost control at the time it reached a sharp bending corner. The five people in vehicle, including the driver died on the spot. They were coming from Bile in Khana Local Government Area," Bright added.
Though, the Rivers State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Dr. Kayode Olagunju, could not confirm the accident when contacted on Sunday, he promised to call back after being briefed on the road accident.
However, an FRSC official said the remains of the deceased had since been deposited in a mortuary around Khana Local Government.
It will be recalled that three person lost their lives in a similar circumstance on the same road before the Christmas celebration last year.
